The barn owl exudes such a saintly, shimmering presence, that it was my duty to give this one a halo of silver leaf.

Purple Finch 6" x 6" Painting #37 $150
Went to the zoo today with Becca and Emily to take some bird photos. We came to the conclusion that in general, animals are really lazy. But then, deep down inside we already knew that because of the slothful behavior displayed by our cats at home.

White Pelican 6" x 6" Painting #28 Sold
I shot this pelican (with my camera) at the SF zoo. I really liked how the patterns of the ripples framed the bird's head and neck. Below is a group shot of the last four weeks of work. Click on the photo to enlarge. Do you see your bird?

Big Phat Pheasant 6" x 6" Painting # 26 $150
Here a few photos from the reception at Mistral on Wednesday. As you can see, I like pheasants and this one flying over our heads took a little longer than three hours to paint, more like two months. Later in this blog, after the 50/50 is wrapped up, I'll go into a bit more detail on the significance of the pheasant in my life.

Red-winged Blackbird 6" x 6" Painting # 24 Sold
Last night we saw the fabulous Neko Case perform at the Warfield in SF. If you're not familiar with her music, I'd say it falls under indie-country, if that makes any sense. She uses a lot of bird imagery in her lyrics and album graphics, but they're not typically cute birds, rather, they hold a lot of mystery and symbolic weight, just like her songs. I always thought her music would be a perfect soundtrack for driving late at night in the deep, moonlit desert. Check out her music if you can.
