Panels for my objects of desire.

I got my 50 panels today and have started to prepare them. This time I'm applying canvas to each panel for a little more "paint grab". Last year I simply primed my panels with gesso, but the problem with that is the oil paint tends to slide around too much. (Notice I'm using April's rolling pin...don't tell her!)

Like last year, you will be able to reserve a painting as it appears on this blog. Leave a comment or email me to reserve a particular painting. First painting will be posted Monday. Yow!

  2. Mm, looks like you got caught :)
Looking forward to the 50 paintings.
Do you have advice how to mount the canvas to the board (I still have a roll of linen I purchased a while ago which I would like to use on some boards. I also find the paint sliding to much on gesso'd board.

  3. Hahahahahahaha!!!! Oh dear...what will you do without your apple pies Denny! Fair play to you though. Your objects of desire series sounds like a great challenge and no doubt you are very excited about starting it. I am having some similar thoughts to branch away from stones..I'm thinking of doing a few small paintings (certainly not 50!) of things that allure both men and women from beauty, chocolate, status symbols.. Very broad and will need a lot of narrowing down I think. A change from stones. Look forward to seeing your ideas.

  5. Erik~ It's very easy, simply spread an even layer of white or carpenter's glue on the panel with a brush and lay the canvas down. Use a brayer or rolling pin to smooth out air bubbles and wrinkles. Apply even pressure with a stack of books or other heavy object while the panel(s) dry. Trim off excess canvas around the edges with a very sharp knife.
