I'm back in the studio today. I started back on the flower painting and after a while, decided to do a quick value study of a leather chair that was in the home in Carmel where we stayed this last weekend. I was particularly struck by the way the light hit the chair and made a few sketches and took a reference photo. When this dries in a day or two, I'll add color and refine the painting.
This is fun...when do I get to do this full time?!
Ahh, that's the question we are all asking!
ReplyDeleteFun chair, it looks inviting.
Denny-
ReplyDeleteWow!
You seem like your doing it full time now...I admire your ambition!
The work is stellar as usual!

Jeremy, I know...it seems our buddy Frank Ordaz has figured it out, I need to seek his council!
ReplyDeleteDavid~ I knew you'd like this, my designer pal- thanks for your kind words!
ReplyDeleteI would like to be sitting there right now.
ReplyDeleteThat chair already looks better here than it ever has in real life! Can't wait to see the finished picture.
ReplyDeleteP and B~ Thank you for a lovely weekend, we had so much fun.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Can we adopt your kids??
Really lovely study Denny. I've never done anything like this so I think I should now. Thanks for stopping at my blog.

April~ Value studies are something I don't do enough of... they are so helpful. Usually I don't take the time and just jump right into a painting. I'm trying to change my ways in that regard.
ReplyDeleteThe tones in this are so interesting, Denny. Really like it -- it has such a welcoming feel.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynda, the gray is a mixture of burnt sienna and ultramarine blue with white, it's sort of an odd, slightly nauseating gray, but it gets the job done.
