Morning Flight
31 x 48
oil on panel

Some paintings come right out with little effort, some I wrestle with to the bitter end. This is one of those difficult paintings where I hit my limitations. I have mixed feelings when I look at this one. Luckily, most people like it and fail to see the mistakes. As artists, don't we tend to be hyper critical of our own work?

  1. Denny, your work looks great to me. 'Morning Flight' is beautiful.

And Yes, I totally agree. I am my own worst critic. I have recently realized the viewer is easily satisfied at an early stage of a painting, while I, on the other hand, am always in the mindset to paint better. Which, I think is actually good because it keeps me moving forward.

  2. Denny, I'm impressed once again!

I'm wrestling with the inner art-critic constantly. I don't think I should ignore him totally, but I wish he wasn't on duty ALL the time!

  4. Trish, thanks so much...and you are right, it's funny how someone will comment on how finished a particular painting on my easel looks, when in fact it's so far from being done! Thanks for checking in.

  7. Gorgeous painting! You deserve a pat on the back for tenacity. I have a huge half finished painting of a Heron gliding over water. It's been sitting in the closet for 3 years.
